LSU gets $25 million boost toward Disaster Management Institute
Thursday, March 29th, 2007An alumni couple from Louisiana State University gave their alma mater a $25 million donation with $11 million dedicated to a distater management institute that they were motivated to start.
Emmet and Toni Stephenson said they wanted to start a disaster management institute went they saw LSU’s work running field hospitals in the wake of Katrina.
According to an article in the Times Picayune, the institute will stress preparation, readiness and response to help develop processes for disasters such as the hurricanes of 2005. LSU officials believe there is a chance unique chance to become a premier university for disaster management, and the generous grant, one of the largest ever received by the school, will help make that a reality.
